Next let’s explore the difference between “plant touching” and ancillary services to the cannabis industry.

Plant touching includes all businesses who participate in cannabis research, growing, processing, distribution, and retail sales.  This distinction is appropriate for both marijuana and hemp, and allows for goods and services providers to know where the needs for licensing and compliance are.

Ancillary services are the support structure for plant touching businesses, with professionals who run accounting, branding and design, online sales, lifestyle and promotion, as well as equipment and supplies.

This distinction is a decision point for your business, and an important one.  Will you need to go through the OLCC or Oregon Department of Agriculture for licensure?  Will you have risks associated with your business banking and insurance because you work with a federally illegal product or will you merely support grow operations of cannabis producers as part of a larger grow-product operation?
